Meetinghouse bench

Project: Meetinghouse bench / long version
Location: Private home, Madrid
Date of realization: April 2014

This bench is a version from the original "meetinghouse bench" with different dimensions in length and width (2500mm x 380mm). The desire expressed in the commission was to have a piece of furniture that would serve both as a seat and as a shelf at the same time. The bench is made of Douglas fir and has a "book-matched" top, which was achieved by cuting a plank along the middle and then gluing it together after opening the two parts like a book. The bench rests on an odd number of 3 legs, each with a single diagonal brace. This creates an asymmetric front view which does not produce a discomforting image but a subtle and pleasant tension. In the rear of the bench, this picture is reversed.
